Brine Pool

3D Narrative Video Game | Experimental

Brine Pool is a surreal comedy which follows a cast of strange characters who allow their bizarre delusions to come to the surface.

Developed with the assistance of

A short 3D narrative game set in a distorted version of Melbourne, the game follows a cast of strange characters each with their own unique delusion which manifest as different game mechanics.  This includes a character with an unusual desire for salt, a man in a toxic relationship with a bar of soap, a narcissistic flesh hunk and a creature only know as the Voyeur. In each scene you play as a different character and are incited to lean into their individual delusion, all while being investigated by a covert and cultish organisation called the Brine Agency.   The story of the Brine Pool and its cast of strange characters is exposed through a combination of puzzles and branching narrative pathways.  This ultimately brings the player to question, β€˜Is it really so bad to be pickled in brine if it means you can live out your delusions for eternity?’

Last year Brine Pool received the Originate Games Grant through VicScreen.  This contributed towards six months of pre-production development including a complete script, pre-visualisation, art development, original music, concept art and the creation of a proof-of-concept demo.
